Malaria is an infectious disease that is cause by mosquitoes and affects humans and animals. High grade fever is one of the very common symptom of the illness and can also cause headaches, nausea, vomiting and lethargy. If Malaria is not treated properly, the disease can reappear even months later. The illness can be avoided by preventing bites from mosquitoes but if the patient is already suffering from the disease, then here are a few diet tips that should be followed.
1. Avoid consuming deep fried or food that is high in fat – Nausea and vomiting is a very common symptom of the disease and excess fat can worsen the symptoms. One should avoid fried food, junk food, processed food and food high in sugar.
2. Avoid food containing high fibre – People who are suffering from Malaria should avoid food that is high in fibre content like whole-grain cereals. Consuming such foods can worsen nausea and can also aggravate restlessness. Patients can consume fruits or pulses as they help to give enough nutrition.
3. Do not consume any food item containing caffeine – Caffeine can be found in the hot drinks like tea, coffee, chocolates and hot chocolate. While the digestive system has already gone for a toss, consumption of caffeine can make things worse.
4. Eat bland and not anything that is spicy – Malaria patients often struggle with poor digestive systems and spicy food can make it tough for digestion. This can also lead to a lengthy recovery of the patient.
5. Do not eat heavy or street food – Street food can indeed be hard to resist, but it better to keep the malaria patients away from such processed food items. Some bland foods like rice, dry toast with hot milk or fruit juices can be gentle on the digestive system and will also make the patient feel comfortable. Such food can aggravate the feeling of nausea in the patient.
