Technology has influenced every aspect of our lives – be it work, fitness, communication, health, or the way we eat. Since the invention of the Internet and technological gadgets, the average person is health-conscious and consumes more vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately, people eat excessive meat, eggs, and junk food, thus, causing significant risks to their health. Technology has made it convenient to develop healthy eating habits and bad habits too!
The availability of kitchen gadgets enables individuals to use fresh and diverse ingredients in everyday cooking. Appliances like a garlic peeler, salad chopper, yogurt maker, and juice mixer make it a lot easier than before in the preparation of healthy meals. Gone are the days when people used to avoid using fresh vegetables and herbs due to the time-consuming tasks of preparing them (read: chopping, blending, pureeing and so on). While adding vitamins and significant minerals in meals was challenging, advancement in technology has made it effortless. You can now eat well-balanced meals because of technological advancements that allow you to purchase food online, cook it in kitchen appliances and keep a tab on your calories.
In addition, the Internet and cooking applications have provided numerous methods of preparing wholesome and nutritious food. As long as you have an internet connection, you can access thousands of recipes online with instructions that help you to prepare different meals. Whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack, technology enables you to eat healthily. Today, even someone without a background in catering can prepare good food. Similarly, people utilize social media and other platforms to share information about the best eating habits. This has improved eating etiquette and the way we eat because food is more appreciated.
However, technology has adverse effects on the way we eat as well. Since it is easier to order food online or via the phone, eating unhealthy food is at an all-time high. This has resulted in an increase of cases of obesity, high blood pressure and cardiovascular condition on account of increased availability of cheap (and tempting) sugary and oily meals.
Indeed, the advancements of the 21st century has made it easier to develop better eating habits, but on the flip side, easier access to low-priced, junk food has resulted in a shift from traditional, home-cooked meals to inferior quality and easily available foods that do more harm than good to the body. When appliances and apps are used well, you can eat healthier and tastier food if you plan it right. Nonetheless, it has also led to unhealthy lifestyles, so you should choose wisely how you use it.
