Happy spouse can be a secret to long and healthy life

A new study has talked about the importance of staying happy to lead and healthy and long life. The study has stressed that if a person has a cheerful life partner then they are more likely to lead and healthier and a longer life compared to those who have less happy partners. The research was published in the journal of Psychological Science that suggests that having a happy spouse not just leads to a longer marriage but also a longer and healthier life.

Study author, Olga Stavrova, a researcher at Tilburg University in Netherlands said, “The data shows that spousal life satisfaction was associated with mortality, regardless of individuals’ socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, or their physical health status”. To conduct the study, the researchers studied about 4,400 US couples aged more than 50. It was observed that the life satisfaction of the spouses was an even better predictor of mortality than the own life satisfaction of the participants.

The study author added that the findings underscore the role of individuals immediate social environment in their health results. It was also noticed that people who have an active, happy spouse for instance are likely to have an active lifestyle themselves. The research also pointed out that the partner’s life satisfaction might have important consequences for health and longevity.

The study author also insisted that if your partner is depressed and wishes to spend the evening eating chips in front of the TV then there are high chances that the spouse might also end up spending the evening in the same way. It was also found that greater partner life satisfaction was linked to lower mortality risk of the participants. The author talked about how well do we understand our partners in a social environment and how it also helps themselves to remain happy in life. It also includes understanding the personality and well being of the close ones of the individuals.
