There are a few things about food which we have believed as true for so many years but are not really true. Here are a few myths about food which need to be broken.
1. Carbonated drinks are not good for health – Well the fact is that a sodium free seltzer actually quenches thirst and does not do any harm, while soda is unhealthy and should be avoided.
2. Carrots should be eaten raw – Not many are aware that carrots when cooked become richer in terms of their nutritional value. The cooking process breaks the tough cellular walls which has the main nutrient.
3. People who are diabetic must give up on sweets completely – Not completely but in anything in moderation does not harm. People who are diabetic need to have a balanced diet including meals and snacks which should provide them with sufficient protein, vitamins, carbs and minerals.
4. Fat-free and low-fat foods are better than the full fat ones – The fact is that there is hardly a 15% difference between a fat free version and a full fat version. Moreover, the companies often make up for the lack of fat by replacing it with another unhealthy ingredient to keep up the taste. So there is hardly any difference.
5. Canned fruits and frozen fruits do not have enough nutrients than fresh ones – Vegetables and fruits often take a long travel time to reach the consumers due to which they are not so fresh as when they are plucked. On the other hand at least the canned fruits and vegetables are better for consumption as their nutrients are preserved.
6. At least 8 glasses of water must be consumed every day – One of the most commons myths which is not true. You should drink water when you are thirsty and depending on the location, body and climate.
