If you were starting to get bored of Game of Thrones Season 7, then the finale, The Dragon and the Wolf definitely exceeded even the skeptic’s expectations. It was everything we hoped for and something even more. And it perfectly leads into Season 8 because yes, Winter is Here.
Where to begin?!
Ok, so let’s clear one thing out of the way: The Stark sisters! Yes, after toying with us for the past couple of episodes, making it look like Sansa and Arya were drifting apart thanks to Petyr Baelish, they finally came to a head. And Sansa watched happily as Arya slit the throat of the one who had truly betrayed her family all along. Bringing up his repeated treason against her father, mother and aunt, and also selling her to the Boltons, the end for Littlefinger finally arrived. That was one death GoT fans have been waiting for.
The two queens finally meet. Cersei and Daenerys Targaryen come together in the dragon pit at King’s Landing to talk about something far more dangerous than their scuffle for the Iron Throne – the undead. As an aghast Cersei is shown a wight, Euron Greyjoy pretends to leave the meeting, going back to Pyke. Since Jon Snow refuses to bend the knee, having already pledged allegiance to Dany, Tyrion has to come face to face with his sister to reach a truce.
What we all have been waiting for, the mating of Dany and Jon. While he tells her that, yes, she may be able to have children again since Mirri Maz Duur was the same witch who killed her husband, cannot be trusted. And they DO IT in the ship on the way back to Winterfell. Though it wasn’t one of the steamiest scenes we are used to on Game of Thrones, it was definitely refreshing after witnessing that disgusting army of the White Walkers. But why was Tyrion Lannister creeping on them? Does he have something up his sleeve, since we didn’t actually hear the entire conversation between him and Cersei?
One of the biggest shockers of the episode was what transpired between Cersei and Jaime. Since she is pregnant, one would expect that she would want her baby daddy close to her. But she reveals that Euron Greyjoy has, in fact, got a better chance at becoming her husband than her own incestuous partner. She sends Jaime scampering to the North on his own, while she maintains ground at King’s Landing. She’s smartly plotting the ruination of the Unsullied and the Dothraki against the White Walkers up in the North before any of them reach King’s Landing.
Brief reunions:
Fans were delighted to see Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth meet again. Meanwhile Tormund Giantsbane is one of the first to witness the Night King on his resurrected dragon at Eastwatch. Did he survive the tumbling of the Wall?
Bran Stark, now the Three-Eyed Raven and Samwell Tarly meet and make revelations. True, fans already came up with the theories beforehand, but then again, we’re already obsessed. So, Jon is not a bastard Snow nor a Sand, but his true name is Aegon Targaryen, the legit son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
Sandor Clegane, formerly the Hound meets his brother, Gregor Clegane in the dragon pit. They’ve changed since Season 1, since they didn’t get at each other’s throats the minute they stood in the same pit.
