It’s been almost a year since news broke that A-list couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were parting ways. Reports had surfaced that after a scuffle with their eldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Angelina decided she had enough, and was the one who filed the papers. It was a shock to the world, since the couple had been together for 12 years and have six children together. Over and above that, they seemed like a strong couple, and Brad had even supported Angelina during her mastectomy.
A couple of months ago, Brad Pitt gave an interview, where he talked about his life after being separated from his family. One thing’s for sure, he went through a seriously depressing period, where he cut himself off from the world and took to therapy to overcome his addictions and issues.
And now, Angelina Jolie is telling her side of the story, at least what she’s been up to since she decided to end her marriage with Pitt. To cut a long story short, it’s not good. In an interview with Vanity Fair for which she is their September issue covergirl, she shares what life has been like post the break up and her latest health scare.
Since their split, Angelina took the children and stayed at rented homes. They’ve just purchased a lavish $25 million mansion in Los Angeles, their new home. “It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air. [The house] is a big jump forward for us, and we’re all trying to do our best to heal as our family.”
“[Our lifestyle] was not in any way a negative. That was not the problem. That is and will always remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children. They’re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I’m very proud of them.”
“We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing… They’re not healing from the divorce. They’re healing from some… from life, from things in life.”
During the past nine months, Angelina Jolie has been concentrating on bringing some form of normalcy to her new single life with her children. But, she was also diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that paralyses one side of the face. She also noticed that she had more grey hair and drier skin. “I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had. Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health.”
“I’ve been trying for nine months to be really good at just being a homemaker and picking up dog poop and cleaning dishes and reading bedtime stories. And I’m getting better at all three.”
