Post-breakup letter from Tupac to Madonna proves he dumped her because she’s white

First off, when exactly did Madonna and Tupac Shakur ever date?! Anyone else not know about this? Probably one of the most oddest short-lived couples of the ’90s, evidence of their romance still lives.

A three-page love letter written by the slain rapper Tupac to Madonna, his then-girlfriend, has been published in part by TMZ. In it, he explains how difficult it is for him to date the pop star, especially since she was known as a feminist and sex symbol during that decade. Also, it seems that the lovers had a spat, mostly because of an interview that Madge had given on the David Letterman Show. She had later clarified about it awkward interview, saying at the time: “I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is he got me all riled up on life in general. So, when I went on the show, I was feeling very gangsta.”

Shakur offers her an explanation, saying that it was difficult to date a white woman, since he was technically the poster child for African-Americans in the US. While his war through words against the system continued, he found it a little hypocritical to be dating a woman who wasn’t black. “For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize you career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting. But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.”

Excerpts from the letter read: “First and foremost, I must apologize to you because like you said I haven’t been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being. An interview where you said ‘I’m off to rehabilitate all the rappers and basketball players’ or something to that effect, those words cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself. It was at this moment our of hurt & a natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart & ego that I said a lot of things.”

“Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with [an] extremely famous sex symbol.”

At the time of writing the letter, Tupac Shakur was incarcerated at the Clinton Correctional Facility on sexual assault charges. And the letter he wrote Madonna is dated January 15, 1995 at 4:30am. “I don’t know how you feel about visiting me but if you could find it in your heart I would love to speak face to face with you. It’s funny but this experience has taught me not to take time 4 granted.”

Tupac’s letter to Madonna is currently on auction at Gotta Have Rock and Roll for $100,000.
