Coldplay, Shakira, Pharrell Williams And More Set To Perform At Global Citizen Festival Hamburg

Global Citizen is slowly becoming one of the most grandest international social and musical festivals in the world. Some of the biggest performers of our generation have performed at global venues, including the United States, India and now, Germany. The Global Citizen Festival Hamburg is set to kick off on July 6, and already the lineup is looking good.

Spanish pop star Shakira will take the stage at Global Citizen Festival Hamburg, alongside special guests Coldplay. Today the British band’s frontman, Chris Martin took to Instagram to share a funny video of him singing and attempting to dance to Shakira’s Me enamoré. And it looks like they will also be bringing along other European musical bigwigs like Stromae, London Grammar and Lana Del Rey.

Other performers for Global Citizen Festival Hamburg include Happy singer and music producer Pharrell Williams, along with German singer-songwriter, Andreas Bourani. British pop star Ellie Goulding will also be making an appearance, as will Herbert Grönmeyer. In a public statement, Pharrell Williams spoke about the upcoming festival, saying, “The next generation deserves a better future. Let’s make sure our leaders commit the resources necessary to bring millions out of extreme poverty across the globe.” This comes just days after US President Donald Trump withdrew the country from the Paris Climate Agreement, and a day after we celebrated World Environment Day.

Global Citizen Festival is a touring international festival that brings to the spotlight a number of social issues plaguing the world, including the environment, refugee crisis, development, economies, human rights and a host of other topics. The Global Citizen Festival Hamburg is set to take place on July 6, 2017 on the eve of the G20 Summit at Barclaycard Arena, Hamburg, Germany.

Shakira has also spoken up about her excitement to be a part of this social awareness-cum-music extravaganza, saying, “As Global Citizens that we are, I believe we can be the first generation to make sure children everywhere have access to quality education, healthy and proper nutrition to break the cycle of poverty in which millions of people are still trapped. I am looking forward to performing with Coldplay on July 6th to help raise awareness about the importance of coming together to work towards this goal.”
