Billionaire Elon Musk Once Lived Off $1/Day

If you’re thinking, you might as well think big.

Go big or go home.

Think like a billionaire.

So many big statements to push people to expand their limits. But many aren’t practical. In fact, if you want to go big, you start small. And the prime example of this is none other than Tesla’s Elon Musk.

Modern day’s “Iron Man”, the guy is nothing like his on-screen namesake in the Marvel series. He’s a man on a mission. His aim is to change the world, quite literally. He’s going to revolutionize technology and make the planet more sustainable. This billionaire’s thoughts are out of this world, and that’s where his career is taking him. Next will be Mission Mars.

But Elon Musk wasn’t always who he is now. In fact, he was bullied when in school, and managed to make it all on his own before setting up his empire. But, being the gentleman that he is, he doesn’t want to keep his human powers to himself. In a podcast with Neil deGrasse Tyson, he made a very profound statement.

Elon Musk said, “So I was like, ‘Oh, okay. If I can live for a dollar a day – at least from a food cost standpoint – it’s pretty easy to earn $30 in a month, so I’ll probably be ok.”

“I mean, in America, it’s pretty easy to keep yourself alive. So my threshold for existing was pretty low. I figured I could be in some cheap apartment with my computer and be okay, and not starve.”

Well, on a budget that low, don’t expect that he went gourmet. His diet mostly consisted of hot dogs and oranges that he bought in bulk, and switched up his meal plan with spaghetti and tomato sauce, on occasion.

But, here’s the thing – his diet and lifestyle was not his life’s goal. His goal was to build one of the most futuristic companies in the world. And that’s exactly what he never compromised on. Everything else was secondary, including what he ate and how he lived. And that’s the key to how Elon Musk became the “Iron Man”.
