Michelle Obama’s Last Speech as First Lady is Emotionally Moving

Take-aways from Michelle Obama’s Final Speech as First Lady of United States of America

First Lady Michelle Obama gave an emotionally touching speech on Friday, January 6, tearing up in tears as she urged young Americans to always “lead by example with hope, never fear”.

The event on Friday was held as a part of her Reach Higher and Better Make Room initiatives, promoting higher education amongst the youth of America.

“So, that’s my final message to young people as First Lady, it’s simple. I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong. So don’t be afraid. Do you hear me, young people? Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourself with a good education.”

The event was attended by several academicians and stars including Usher, Andy Cohen, La La Anthony, Connie Britton, Jay Pharoah, rapper Wale and Kelly Rowland. Michelle thanked everyone associated with the Better Make Room initiative and went on to say that –

“As I end my time in the White House, I can think of no better message to send our young people. For all the young people in this room and that are watching, know that this country belongs to you, to all of you. If you or your parents are immigrants, you are part of a proud American tradition.”

She went on to encourage students further by saying that, “Diversity makes us who we are” and affirmed them believe in themselves, believe that they too can make a difference to the American story.

It’s all about hard work and a good education in the end of the day that makes all the difference. Not race, not money, not status not prejudice – just hard work. She concluded her speech by saying that –

“I WILL BE WITH YOU, ROOTING FOR YOU AND WORKING TO SUPPORT YOU FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.”

However, this speech by Michelle Obama will not be the last time we see her as First Lady as she is slated to appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday, January 11. We are eagerly looking forward to it!

For now, all we can say is – We love you Flotus, you will be missed.
