Go Green Without Drastically Altering Your Lifestyle

Going green is the best move you can make today for yourself and your planet to stay healthy. It will also save you money, curb down diseases and help fight natural calamities.

Here are eight ways showing how to go green without drastically altering your lifestyle

1. Consume fresh food:

Foods that are imported, packaged and consumed widely over the world add immensely to plastic wastes that are dumped in lands and in the oceans. The chemicals contained in polythene and wraps make the lands infertile, kill marine life and also affect human by causing diseases such as cancers. Transporting imported foods also consumes fuel and adds to pollution. Eating fresh food that are produced locally, solves all these problems and keep you healthy.

2. Travel smartly:

Smooth and skilled driving that avoids speed, switching off engine while coming across a red light and accelerating quickly can increase your vehicle’s mileage. Ride a bike or travel in a public and shared transport whenever possible to save fuel and curb pollution.

3. Use paper judiciously:

Avoid wasting paper by printing needlessly, use both sides of the paper and use recycled paper. Though paper is biodegradable, it releases methane gas during decomposition. Using recycled paper saves trees, energy, and water and lowers pollution.

4. Preserve water:

Go green by changing or fixing dripping water taps and don’t leaving it running while shaving or brushing teeth. As much as possible using drinking or piped water to clean vehicles, homes or watering the garden.

5. Substitute burned-out bulbs:

Substitute burned-out bulbs with light-emitting diodes (LEDS) or compact fluorescent lamps (CFLS) which consumes less power to generate electricity. Using LEDS will also curb emission of greenhouse gas from power plants.

6. Utilize phones and laptops efficiently:

Unless necessary delay upgrading your phone. Charging smartphones emits greenhouse gas. Discarded phone batteries contain cadmium that pollutes water and the plastic coverings add to non-degradable wastes. Switch off laptops and computers when not in use. It will save both energy and electricity bills.

7. Skip buying bottled water:

Instead of buying bottled water, use a water filter for purifying tap water and carry your own reusable water bottle while going out instead of buying it every time you are thirsty. It is not only expensive but adds to contaminated waste.
