Fashion trends do change across timelines but the funny thing about it is that one season something is lauded and can be seen on all streets. The next thing you know you’re laughing at your old pictures saying, ‘I can’t believe we used to wear that!’ Here is a look at some old trends that are making a surprising fashion comeback.
The creamy, semi-matte wine-colored lipstick took a center stage on the runway the past two seasons. You’d be surprised to know that wine lipstick was as popular during the 1920s and 30’s as it is today. This comeback got a jolt after Anne Hathaway wore the Bordeaux lipstick during the premiere of the musical ‘Les Miserables’ in New York.
During the 70’s Disco era, music maestro, Diana Ross wore her hair in a natural, round and trendy coif – something which caught up and became a hair muse. The same hairstyle was donned by Solange Knowles (Singer, Songwriter, Model and sister to Beyonce) and ladies are following suit en masse.
It has been more than 5 decades since Audrey Hepburn of the ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ show introduced the top-knot hair updo. Audrey’s timeless hairstyle choice continues to inspire even today. Jennipher Lopez graced the Academy Awards adorning the updo.
Nothing transcends the sexy, flesh-colored lipstick. This timeless fashion trend which was first brought to the world’s attention by the French actress Brigitte Bardot still dazzles. Case in Point – Kim Kardashian. The reality TV queen, model and actress regularly wears this lipstick and was quoted saying that the lipstick trend is always sexy.
The half-moon manicure too has taken the fashion world by storm and Hollywood celebs like Kerry Washington are making the trend rage on. The manicure is a throwback to the late ’30s and early ’40s fashion trend lacquered up by the likes of Joan Crawford. However, what Kerry wore offers a new take to the conventional nude nail manicure.
Edgie Sedgwick knew how to make a fashion statement. The actress introduced the fashion world to the ‘cat eye’. She would layer faux eyelashes in sets and on top of her beautiful graphic liner for a unique look. Today, this look still inspires and Lauren Conrad seems to have taken the mantle from Edgie Sedgwich. She is the modern duchess of the ‘cat eye’.
