A number of women often complain of period cramps which are usually nothing to worry about. But the feeling and the pain is never pleasant for women who actually go through it. Although there are a number of over-the-counter medications which are easily available, but it is always better to manage such pains as naturally as possible. Here we will be discussing about a few foods that women can consume to ease the period cramps.

1. Leafy green vegetables – Green and leafy vegetables are high in iron content. When the body loses a lot of menstrual blood, it also loses iron. Vegetables like spinach and kale have plenty of iron. Alternatively, women facing menstrual cramps can also consume green and leafy salads which can be served with chicken or fish dishes.

2. Chamomile tea – Another excellent remedy for menstrual cramps is chamomile tea as it has anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties that help to prevent painful cramps. A warm cup of chamomile tea helps the body to produce glycine, a chemical that helps with the muscle spasms and is also a great nerve relaxant.

3. Broccoli – It is a vegetable that has high fibre content and helps in relieving the problem of bloating. Broccoli is loaded with magnesium, calcium, potassium along with Vitamins C, A, B6 and E. These nutrients help with the discomfort caused due to menstrual cramps.

4. Avocados – it is a high fat fruit that contains potassium, a mineral that also acts as a natural diuretic and helps the body to get rid of the extra sodium and fluid. The presence of potassium also helps to prevent any muscle cramps and also increases the feeling of fullness. You can add avocados with a smoothie, or could be eaten with eggs and salad. Another good way to consume avocados is to cut it in half, sprinkle lime juice and turmeric and scoop and eat it with a spoon.
