It is cool to get a tattoo done and feels even better when you get to flaunt it. However, not many are aware that a tattoo also needs some maintenance. It is a fact that once you get it done, you need to live with it forever. After the tattoo is healed, most of them stop caring for them. When you step out in the sun, the pollution, hash sunrays and dirt lightens the ink in the tattoo and makes it look dull. Here are a few ways you can make your tattoo look new and fresh.

1. Apply sunscreen – You need to apply a sunscreen even if the tattoos are hidden under the clothes. Pick up a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and apply it at least 20 minutes before you step out in the sun. Remember, even if it is cloudy, you need to apply sunscreen as the ultra-violet rays penetrate through the clouds as well.

2. Do not tan – There are many people who love to sit in the sun while tanning the skin to get a tanned look. People who have a tattoo should avoid getting tanned in the open or even at the Tanning beds and sunlamps. Sun rays can damage the tattoo by discoloring it and make it look dull.

3. Do not expose in the sun during peak hours – Avoid stepping out between 10 am to 4 pm as this is the time when UV rays are at its strongest. If it is very necessary, then make sure that you cover the tattoo with a towel or a jacket.

4. Avoid wearing synthetic clothes – It is better top opt fabrics like cotton that allows the skin the breathe. Apart from the fabric it is also advisable to wear lose clothes. This not just helps to cover the tattoos but also avoids any infection caused due to heat.
