Menopause is a physical condition in most of the women’s lives when their menstrual periods stop permanently. While occurrence might seem simple, the women’s body undergoes a number of changes. This typically happens during their 40s or 50s and the estrogen levels begin to get affected. It is the hormones that are affected and this leaves a good impact on the health as well as the skin. Hormones also have a big role to play in terms of the skin, which means people who are undergoing the phase should take extra care for their skin. Here are a few things that can happen to the skin as they undergo menopause.
1. Skin begins to become thin – Menopause, is when the estrogen levels start to go down and it begins to affect the skin. Estrogen plays a vital role in the quality and texture of the skin. The skin here becomes thin and becomes more vulnerable to bruises and tears. It also breaks easily and results in speeding up of aging.
2. Dark spots – Dark spots on the skin begin to appear more prominently and this also happens due to the up and down of the estrogen levels. Precautions can be taken by having a balanced diet and leading an active life.
3. Fine lines – A decrease in estrogen levels affects the production of collagen in the skin which reduces the elasticity and leads to appearance of fine lines and ultimately wrinkles. The healthy fat on the skin also begins to deplete and leads to sagging.
4. Uneven skin tone – As mentioned earlier, a drop in the estrogen levels leads to a decrease in the collagen production in the skin. This makes it look dull and uneven. Such a condition can also lead to pigmentation and appearance of blemishes.
Menopause does not mean the end of good skin as it can be maintained by taking proper diet and leading a healthy lifestyle.
