Recap of Game of Thrones Season 7: Eastwatch

What an episode! HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 7 continues to take on the epic story of Westeros created by George R R Martin and re-created by the brilliant duo of David Benioff and D B Weiss. The latest episode Eastwatch, was just as exciting and promises to lead up to probably the biggest moments from GoT we have seen so far.

Here’s a recap of what happened on the latest episode of Game of Thrones Season 7: Eastwatch. Some major spoilers ahead!

Jaime Lannister: Great news! The twin of Queen Cersei is still alive and well! Bronn not only saved the Kingslayer, but was even the one responsible for having him finally have a reunion with the Imp, Tyrion. More on that later.

Dracarys!: Daenerys Targaryen is still showing her own version of “fire and fury” through Drogon, as she asks the surviving Lannister men to bend the knee. The Tarlys continue to pledge allegiance to Cersei, so she has Randall and Dickon Tarly burnt to a crisp in the field of their last battle. It gives us some flashbacks to her own father, the Mad King, but as Varys and Tyrion would later discuss in the throne room of Dragonstone, she isn’t her father’s daughter. Not yet.

Winterfell: Politics continues to play a vital role up in the North, with Arya Stark chastising Lady Sansa for not taking up for her brother, and current King in the North, Jon Snow. The Houses under the Stark banner are not happy that their King isn’t ruling from Winterfell, and want Sansa to officially be their ruler. Arya has already smelled the plotting of Petyr Baelish, and begins creeping on him to recover a damning scroll. At the same time, Baelish is creeping on Arya as well!

Jaime and Tyrion: The brothers finally unite in the room with the dragon skulls, thanks to Bronn. The Imp has been sent on a mission by Jon Snow to try and bring a truce between Cersei and Daenerys, in order to save the living from the undead. It’s a bittersweet reunion between the Lannister brothers, with Tyrion using his way with words to get Jaime to whisper in the ears of the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Samwell: After hearing the maesters debate on the myth of the White Walkers, Samwell Tarly finally decides to leave Oldtown, books, Gilly and her son in tow. He unfortunately doesn’t know that his father and brother are now ash. But that means that he is now the only one left with the Tarly name.

Gendry: Yes, the bastard son and the last of the Baratheon name, Gendry has been found by Ser Davos Seaworth in Flea Bottom and pledges to join him and Jon Snow in obtaining a White Walker as evidence to both the doubting Queens of Westeros.

The Wall: With the leave of Daenerys, Jon Snow, the Onion Knight and Gendry head to the Wall to make their trip to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea. A raven sent by Bran from Winterfell has informed Snow that the White Walkers are making their way to the port. Eastwatch has also made its way to the Westeros map in the opening credits.

Did you catch the exchange between Samwell Tarly and Gilly during Eastwatch?

Honorable mentions

Ser Jorah Mormont: It is the latest reunion that fans have been looking forward to. Now cured of his grey scale, Ser Jorah meets with Dany and continues to pledge allegiance, though he is still squarely in the friend zone!

Jon Snow’s heritage: Did you miss that one observation by Gilly? While educating herself from the books of the old maesters, she mentions that Rhaegar Targaryen had in fact, divorced his wife and married someone else, though they do not know who it is. His “annulment” and ultimate marriage with another woman in Dorne has fans musing on the Wildling’s observations. So Snow isn’t a bastard after all!

Drogon and Jon Snow: This brings us to the epic scene on Dragonstone with the first meeting between Drogon and Snow. Dany is amazed by how her dragon takes to Snow, allowing him to touch him. It was one of the most heartwarming scenes of Eastwatch for sure.

Cersei and Jaime: Just when you thought Cersei wasn’t capable of producing more vile spawn like Joffrey, she makes the happy announcement to her brother and lover: she is pregnant! But she also warns her baby daddy to never betray her again.

And finally, the closing scene from Game of Thrones Season 7’s Eastwatch: Thoros of Myr, Ser Beric Dondarrion and the Hound have reunited with Jon Snow, Gendry, Ser Jorah Mormont and Tormund Greatsbane. Together, the awkward band of brothers will be taking on the White Walkers in Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.
