iPhone 8: Launch rumored to be pushed back to late 2018 & more details

While there is no doubt about the fact that Apple will be launching the iPhone 8 along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7s in September 2017 – rumors have it that iPhone 8 could hit the markets as late at 2018! Several other rumors surrounding the colors it will come in and the features the phone will have are also doing the rounds. Here’s what it’s all about –

1. Delay in shipping iPhone 8

As disclosed by Japanese Apple fan site Macotakara, the iPhone 8 could launch in the first fiscal quarter of 2018 (Macotakara’s sources come from iPhone component suppliers). The site’s report also claims that post release, the initial sales will be very limited considering that fact that Apple is currently experiencing supply issues. They have hinted that more iPhone 8 units should become available in early 2018 as Apple is currently working with suppliers to address its production struggles.

2. iPhone 8 may not be available in White

Another interesting fact revealed about the much awaited model is that it may not be available in white. Macotakara claims that after conducting several tests and prototypes, Apple decided that building a White iPhone 8 would not be possible owing to the materials used.

This is strange since Apple has already launched a White Apple Watch. However, it is important to note that while the Apple Watch is made out of a ceramic like material, iPhones have a glass body. So there could be some truth to this one – let’s see!

3. iPhone 8 may not have a Fingerprint ID scanner, but will come with Facial Recognition instead

Another interesting rumor which has been doing the rounds for a while is that the new iPhone may not come with a fingerprint/ Touch ID scanner, which is built into the power button. Previously, it was being speculated that the Touch ID scanner will be built into the screen – but later it proved to be a challenging task.

It is being speculated that the iPhone 8 will come with a Facial Recognition scanner, which will replace it’s flagship feature of fingerprint scanning. Another theory suggests that the latest iPhone may come with an unlock feature based on the Raise to Wake feature.

4. iPhone 8 will come with a bezel less screen

This rumor is based on leaked photos which surfaced a few weeks ago and are believed to be prototypes of the iPhone 8. The prototypes revealed a large screen, minus a bezel and with a variety of sensors in the display, cutout at the top.

However, it is important to take all these theories with a pinch of salt as they are based on mere speculation and no official confirmation has been made by Apple.
